The withdrawal or return of monsoon is called withdrawal of monsoon. The monsoon begins to retreat from early September. On 1 September, the monsoon begins to retreat from northwest India. It is the last day of rainy season in Barmer and Jaisalmer of Rajasthan.
By September 15, the monsoon moves away from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The area under the influence of monsoon gradually decreases. By mid-October, it is discharged from all of India except southern India. The monsoon winds from most parts of the country are displaced by the north-eastern trading winds. In this way, the returning monsoon winds receive water vapor from the Bay of Bengal and rain in Tamil Nadu as the northeast monsoon.
Break of Monsoon
Long dry periods are commonly found in the southwest monsoon period when there is no rain for one, two or several weeks. Such a phenomenon is called the break of monsoon. These breaks in different areasThere are various reasons, which are as follows:
Monsoon breakup in the vast plains of northern India occurs due to decrease in the number of tropical cyclones and change in the status of ITCZ.
Monsoon breakup occurs on the west coast when humid winds start to flow parallel to the coast. The main reason for the lack of rains over western Rajasthan is the thermal conditions at low levels of the atmosphere. The inversion of the temperature prevents rain-blowing winds from rising. Also the location of the Aravalli ranges is parallel to the monsoon winds.
